Joseph B. Coopwood, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon who practices at UT Health East Texas Physicians Jacksonville. As a general surgeon in Operation Enduring Freedom, Dr. Coopwood, followed in the footsteps of his grandfather (World War II) and father (Vietnam War) by becoming a surgeon in the Air Force. “Being a surgeon is what I’ve wanted to do since I was about 8 years old, and I’ve always thought highly of the military, so it was a good fit.”
