Four nurses from UT Health Henderson returned to work this week after spending two weeks helping at a New Jersey hospital during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak there.

All four tested negative for COVID-19 upon returning and were quarantined for a week as an added precaution. On Wednesday, they walked back into the hospital they left almost a month ago to help in one of the hardest hit hotspots in the country.

Donating his plasma

Rodney Davis’ bout with COVID-19 was so bad that he wants to make sure he can do anything he can to help others suffering from the virus.

Davis, 44, of Grand Saline, plans to participate in the convalescent plasma research being conducted by physicians with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler and UT Health East Texas with hopes of providing a recovery pathway for patients.

Roy Anderson and Vivian Schumer arrived at UT Health Tyler within 24 hours of one another, both gravely ill from COVID-19. They both spent weeks on a ventilator and were celebrated with viral videos of hospital staff cheering as they “graduated” from ICU and were wheeled to a different unit. A sports hernia, also known as athletic pubalgia, is a strain or tear of any soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) in the lower abdomen or groin area.

Carolyn Gianettino, 75, started volunteering at UT Health Tyler three years ago after her husband spent several days in the hospital. She was looking for a way to fill her retirement and to give back to her community.
