Located on the second floor of UT Health Athens, hospital, the Family Birthplace features state-of-the-art labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) rooms, with continuous, personalized care from our cross-trained nurses and obstetric specialists. Our facility features a 15-bed Level I nursery, cesarean section suite, and a variety of pain management and labor and delivery services to ensure a safe and comfortable pregnancy and childbirth journey. For newborns requiring specialized care, our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at UT Health Tyler provides top-tier medical support from compassionate experts. Labor and delivery services at UT Health East Texas

Located on the second floor of our hospital, the UT Health Athens Family Birthplace has many features to ensure you receive safe pregnancy and childbirth care. 

Our birthing center provides:

  • A 15-bed, Level I nursery, if needed
  • A dedicated surgery suite for cesarean sections
  • Eight private postpartum rooms
  • Epidural pain management
  • Interpreters and/or language access services
  • Lactation education
  • Live online birthing classes
  • Nine large labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum (LDRP) rooms

Online birthing classes

Through our partnership with Birthly, UT Health Athens now offers its patients free access to a variety of perinatal education classes virtually.

Our birthing classes include:

  • Breastfeeding 101(English and Spanish)
  • Coping and Comfort
  • Early Pregnancy Preparations
  • Newborn Care (English and Spanish)
  • Prenatal Education Bootcamp (English and Spanish)

All classes are live, so patients have the opportunity to learn from and interact with certified and experienced childbirth educators. Since each class is offered multiple times a month, patients now have more flexibility in choosing a time that fits their schedule so you can learn from the comfort of their own home. NICU at UT Health Tyler

In the event your baby is born prematurely or needs special care, our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is now available at UT Health Tyler in Tyler, Texas.

In the NICU, skilled medical and nursing staff care for infants aged 32 weeks or greater. Our board-certified neonatologists lead a specialized team of nurses, obstetric specialists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, social workers and other caregivers in providing the best care available for your baby.

Amenities at our NICU include:

  • 24/7 neonatologist coverage and consults
  • Case management and social services
  • Developmental care and specialty therapy services
  • Lactation consultant
