Our heart screening tests
We are proud to offer the latest in diagnostic technology for heart conditions. Our screening and imaging services include:
- Calcium scoring — This computerized tomography (CT) scan is used to identify calcified plaque in the coronary arteries and determine your risk of heart attack.
- Cardiac stress testing — This test pairs exercise with nuclear imaging to allow your doctor to check for blockages in your coronary arteries.
- Echocardiography — This procedure uses ultrasound waves to show the function of your heart valves and chambers, and how blood flows through them.
- Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG) — During an ECG, the electrical activity of your heart will be tested to diagnose arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat), as well as detect evidence of past heart attacks or congenital abnormalities.
- Holter monitoring — Event and Holter monitors are small, portable devices that are used to record your heart’s electrical activity for long periods of time while you go about your daily life. These monitors can capture less frequent arrhythmias.
- Lexiscan — This form of cardiac stress testing uses a drug to safely increase your heart rate so that physicians can check for blockages in your heart’s arteries.
Cardiac rehabilitation
At UT Health Pittsburg, we offer comprehensive cardiac rehab services. Our heart rehabilitation program is designed for two types of patients: those who are recovering from cardiac surgery, and those with a heart condition. We offer a medically-supervised exercise program to help increase your strength and stamina and reduce your risk of another heart attack.
The cardiac rehabilitation program consists of 36 sessions, during which patients will wear a heart monitor and complete at-home exercise recommendations. A Phase 3 program is also available to patients who want to continue training at UT Health Carthage after your monitored sessions are finished. We offer cardiac rehabilitation Monday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:30am to 12pm (noon).
