UT Health East Texas Physicians clinics, COVID-19 vaccine clinic closing for the remainder of the week

Due to continuing inclement weather and poor road conditions, all UT Health East Texas Physicians clinics will be closed for the remainder of the week. This includes the COVID-19 vaccine clinic at UT Health North Campus Tyler.

Providers will be available for telehealth appointments, which can be scheduled online at UTHealthEastTexasDoctors.com or by calling 903-596-DOCS (3627). Patients with scheduled appointments this week will be contacted to reschedule. Clinics are expected to reopen on their regular schedules Monday, Feb. 22.

With a stroke, fast treatment is essential to the treatment and recovery of the patient. That’s why UT Health Athens and UT Health Pittsburg are proud to adopt Viz.ai – an artificially intelligent app that helps detect in real-time blood blockages to the brain.

Patients suspected of stroke receive a CT scan upon arrival at their local hospital. The CT scan is then sent to the physicians, via Viz.ai. The artificially intelligent software reviews the scan and alerts the physician if there’s a suspected blockage to the brain.

UT Health East Texas hosted a ribbon-cutting Wednesday for its new urgent care in Canton, 301 E. State Hwy. 243 in the Trader’s Square shopping plaza. Formerly known as “Canton Express Med,” the clinic re-opened as UT Health East Texas Urgent Care earlier this month. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

Sibyl Vickers has survived a lot in her 99 years. She lived through the Great Depression, lost her eyesight 30 years ago and struggles with hearing loss. And now, she counts herself among COVID-19 survivors.

“I’m feeling much better now,” said Vickers, of Marshall, who is recovering at UT Health Pittsburg.

Vickers first started feeling poorly in mid April, tested positive and was admitted to the hospital days later.

UT Health Henderson nurses serve on front lines in COVID-19 hotspot New Jersey

Four nurses from UT Health Henderson returned to work this week after spending two weeks helping at a New Jersey hospital during the height of the COVID-19 outbreak there.

All four tested negative for COVID-19 upon returning and were quarantined for a week as an added precaution. On Wednesday, they walked back into the hospital they left almost a month ago to help in one of the hardest hit hotspots in the country.
