When Melissa Maeker, director of pharmacy for UT Health North Campus Tyler, saw the weather forecast late last week, she went into planning mode. As with previous ice storms, she planned to stay at the pharmacy for a few nights so she could still work and wouldn’t have to risk being on dangerous, icy roadways.

But this time, there was a new element added to her preparations – making sure power remained for the precious COVID-19 vaccine being kept in an ultracold freezer at the pharmacy.

Due to continuing inclement weather and poor road conditions, all UT Health East Texas Physicians clinics will be closed for the remainder of the week. This includes the COVID-19 vaccine clinic at UT Health North Campus Tyler.

Providers will be available for telehealth appointments, which can be scheduled online at UTHealthEastTexasDoctors.com or by calling 903-596-DOCS (3627). The UT Health East Texas HOPE Breast Center added two new 3D mammography units in Tyler, providing technology that significantly increases the detection of breast cancers. This technology allows images to be divided up in multiple layers, allowing the radiologist to review one layer at a time, reducing the tissue overlap effect. This helps the radiologist find smaller cancers that may be harder to find at an earlier stage.
