UT Health Tyler, UT Health South Broadway laboratories receive accreditation from College of American Pathologists

Tyler, Texas (June 17, 2022) — The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to UT Health Tyler and UT Health South Broadway laboratories based on results of a recent onsite inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

“This again recognizes our laboratories’ long history of excellence and CAP accreditation, arising from the diligence our laboratory personnel bring to work every day to serve our patients,” said Brent R. Harris, MD, the lab facilities’ medical director.

UT Health EMS partners with School of EMS to train Guam officials to receive advanced life support accreditation

Tyler, Texas (June 16, 2022) — UT Health East Texas EMS will host about 20 emergency medical technicians from the island of Guam this summer so they can receive clinical field training to become accredited in advanced life support techniques.

“They’re going to experience high performance 911 training through UT Health East Texas EMS and receive training from paramedics who are actively working in the field,” said TC Howard, chief operating officer of the School of EMS, which helped coordinate the effort.

UT Health East Texas performs region’s first convergent procedure to treat Afib

Tyler, Texas (June 16, 2022) — Physicians from UT Health East Texas and Tyler Cardiovascular Consultants (CVC) successfully completed the first full convergent procedure in East Texas. The minimally invasive procedure is a team effort between a cardiac surgeon and an electrophysiologist (EP) to treat patients with chronic atrial fibrillation (Afib), a condition where the heart has an inconsistent electrical rhythm resulting in an irregular heartbeat.

Tyler, Texas (May 20, 2022) — HealthFirst TPA, a division of UT Health East Texas, has been recognized among the nation’s Best Places to Work in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine.

The annual recognition program honors 150 companies throughout the healthcare industry that “empower employees to provide patients and customers with the best possible care, products and services.” Modern Healthcare will announce the rankings at their annual gala in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sept. 29. HealthFirst also was named to the list in 2019.

UT Health Jacksonville nurse receives DAISY Award

Jacksonville, Texas (May 13, 2022) — Melody Sharp, RN, recently was selected as a DAISY Award winner.

“Melody is a remarkable nurse. She started here as a graduate vocational nurse and worked here as an LVN while attending school to get her RN,” said Michael Hales, chief nursing officer for UT Health Jacksonville. “Now as a registered nurse in the ICU she’s flexible, adaptable and sets the example for her peers in how to care for our patients at UT Health Jacksonville.”

Celebrating 50 years of service at UT Health Henderson

Henderson, Texas (March 9, 2022) — Patsy McCoy lives by the words, “If you truly enjoy your work, you actually never work a day in your life.” McCoy, a certified pharmacy technician at UT Health Henderson, was honored Tuesday for 50 years of service at the hospital.
