UT Health Tyler nurse receives DAISY Award for extraordinary care

Tyler, Texas (June 14, 2021) — Estefania “Stef” Olivares, RN, with UT Health Tyler, recently was selected as a DAISY Award winner.

“I am pleased to recognize Stef as a DAISY Award recipient,” UT Health Tyler Chief Nursing Officer Christy Escandon said. “She is an extraordinary nurse who works tirelessly while maintaining a cheerful, kind attitude. She is very deserving of this recognition.”

Tyler, Texas (June 11, 2021) — Janice Reid was just coming onto her shift as a nursing assistant when she saw the harp in the second floor skywalk of UT Health Tyler.    

“I’ve waited all my life for this, to get close to this instrument,” Reid said as she captured video on her phone. “I have always been fascinated with this instrument since I was a small child, the looks, the sound, everything about it. It made my day, it created a sense of serenity and peace and joy and fulfillment.”

Tyler, Texas (May 19, 2021) UT Health Tyler now offers patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AFib) an alternative to long-term blood thinners with the next-generation Watchman FLX™ Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAAC) Implant.

Dr. Raul Torres, MD, electrophysiologist at UT Health Tyler, implanted the first Watchman FLX device — the only FDA-approved implant proven to reduce stroke risk to people with AFib not caused by a heart valve problem.
