New grade for fall 2024 is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety

Tyler, Texas (October 21, 2024) —  October is Healthy Lung Month so it seems especially fitting to share that UT Health East Texas recently celebrated a meaningful milestone of 500 patient lives impacted by Ion endoluminal system, which makes it easier for patients to know with certainty whether a suspicious lung nodule or lung mass is benign or cancerous. Lung biopsies performed with the Ion are less invasive and more precise. 

Henderson, Texas (September 27, 2024) — Jared Smith has been named chief executive officer for UT Health Henderson and UT Health Carthage, effective Oct. 13. 

Jared has been instrumental in the growth and development of UT Health Quitman since he started there as CEO in December 2020.  He worked to improve quality of care and patient experience, while also increasing access to care. 

Tyler, Texas (October 7, 2024) ─ The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), representing more than 200,000 surgical nurses across the country, has named UT Health Tyler as a Center of Excellence in Surgical Safety: Prevention of RSI. With this award, AORN recognizes the medical center for its commitment to reducing the risk of surgical errors by advancing the education of its surgical team members in the prevention of near misses and the consequences of unintentionally retained surgical items (RSI).

Tyler, Texas (August 29, 2024) —  UT Health East Texas EMS has been recognized by The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) for emergency medical dispatching.

TYLER, Texas (August 22, 2024)  –  The University of Texas at Tyler, UT Health East Texas and Plano-based Oceans Healthcare today announced a partnership to expand behavioral health care in East Texas, including facilities in Tyler and Longview. 

Tyler, Texas (August 14, 2024) – UT Health Tyler has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain  ̶  MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2024. UT Health Tyler is one of only 259 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

Henderson, Texas (August 2, 2024) — UT Health Henderson is among the best hospitals nationwide for nurse communication, according to Becker’s Hospital Review. 

Becker’s compiled a list of 418 top hospitals for nurse communication in each state using Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and UT Health Henderson is among the hospitals 39 listed for Texas.
