911 Operator Job Description

UT Health East Texas EMS is seeking a 911 operator. We are looking for your experience, knowledge, and communication skills in our EMS division where you will be responsible for:

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Prompt and regular attendance at work.
  • Receives requests for ambulance service within established time requirements.
  • Working knowledge of all communications/computer equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with citizens, medical professionals, public officials, and political leaders.
  • Processes calls for service per medical protocols within established Q.I. standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification and Licensure

  • Emergency Medical Dispatch - in house training provided

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

  • Type 30 words per minute with 90% accuracy.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, protocol and procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and to speak effectively over the phone and to employees of the organization.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and the ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of MPDS EMD protocols.
  • Skills to apply EMD protocols over the telephone.
  • Verbal communications skills under stressful conditions.
  • Basic personal computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Windows operating system; database and word processing skills required

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to withstand considerable sitting and work a variety of shift hours while performing the duties of this job.
  • The employee is regularly required to talk and hear and frequently uses hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Employee must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee works inside the communications center. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
