Vanessa Laws, PA-C, is a physician assistant at the UT Health East Texas Orthopedic Institute in Athens. She was drawn to healthcare after having orthopedic surgery as a teenager. “The healthcare team changed the lives of so many people on a daily basis, and I wanted to have that kind of impact as well.”
Laws employs a patient-centered approach with a strong emphasis on patient education and joint decision-making. She works to enhance her patients’ understanding of the purpose for their particular procedure, therapy or medication through education. She aims to help her patients make the best decisions.
“Patients should know they are getting a provider who will listen to their concerns and advocate for them through uncertain or difficult times of their care,” she said.
When not seeing patients, Laws enjoys creative arts, talking about Jesus, traveling to tropical destinations and spending time with her family.
