UT Health East Texas AIR 1
Answering the Call with highest level of critical patient careSince 1985, the professionals of the UT Health East Texas AIR 1 program have answered the call to care for the most critical medical cases across East Texas. AIR 1 provides emergency helicopters and staff to deliver rapid response to assist in everything from major trauma calls, such as car accidents, cardiac and stroke patients or the stabilization and transport of adult, pediatric, newborn, and high-risk patients. Each aircraft is staffed 24 hours, seven days a week. AIR 1 bases are strategically placed in Athens, Henderson and Quitman. UT Health East Texas AIR 1 is poised to be able to respond over 200 miles in any direction with an average airspeed of 120-130 mph at an average altitude of 1,500 ft.
Safety is our priority. With weather status flight control located in Shreveport, Louisiana, to annual safety trainings and flight meetings the care and concern for the patient, our crew and those on the ground is at the forefront of what we do.
In 1994 AIR 1 was the first air medical service in Texas to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Air Medical Transport Services - CAMTS.
Our team consists of 16 Flight Nurses, 12 Flight Paramedics, 4 Flight Controllers, 13 Pilots and 8 Aircraft Mechanics. Collectively, the caregivers for the UT Health AIR 1 program have over 484 years of patient care experience.
