Medical fitness programs are supervised programs held at the ETMC Tyler Olympic Center. These programs are designed for individuals who are managing a medical condition such as heart disease, pregnancy or obesity, transitioning from a clinical rehabilitation program, or simply needing additional support starting an exercise program. Each program is designed to improve individual health and fitness and support patient recovery. Programs are led by degreed and certified exercise specialists, and other health professionals.
Exercise is Medicine
The Exercise is Medicine program at the ETMC Tyler Olympic Center provides a unique opportunity for individuals to receive a FREE 2-week pass to the ETMC Olympic Center after meeting with a degreed and certified exercise specialist for an initial fitness assessment, goal development, and exercise prescription. Forward Motion is a unique exercise program specifically designed to address the needs of patients recently discharged from outpatient rehabilitation or Olympic Center membership candidates who need additional support starting an exercise program. This program offers an additional level of supervision from our program coordinators allowing for a safe transition to an independent exercise program. Please call for our current class schedule. GenFit is a youth fitness program for children 11-17 years of age at that ETMC Olympic Center at Tyler, our state-of-the-art medically-integrated health and fitness center. Participation in the program helps your child develop healthy lifestyle habits that will last a lifetime. Participants receive a personalized exercise program as well as guidance and support from our degreed and certified exercise specialists. Participants may access the fitness area of the Tyler Olympic Center seven days a week during designated program times. Program cost is $35 per month and a parent membership option is available. Interested participants should have their physician complete the GenFit physician release form and present the form to a fitness team member or fax to 903-596-3479.
Therafit is a one, two or three month exercise program specifically designed for patients recently discharged from outpatient rehabilitation services from the ETMC Rehabilitation Center. Participants receive a pre- and post-program fitness assessment, personal training sessions and unlimited access to the ETMC Olympic Center. Program cost is $50 for one month, $95 for two months or $135 for three months.
Fit For Two
Fit for Two is a prenatal fitness program that helps expecting mothers prepare for childbirth, Our program offers overall physical conditioning, including low impact aerobics, stretching, toning, water fitness and yoga. Interested participants should have their physician complete our Fit For Two release form and present this form to a fitness team member or fax to 903-596-3479. Medical Weight Management
ETMC Medical Weight Management is an evidence-based, outcomes-focused program designed to help participants achieve and maintain a healthy weight and improved quality of life. The program integrates healthy eating, exercise and behavior modification to assist them as they lose weight and learn to live a healthy lifestyle. Other tools, such as medication or meal replacement options, may be utilized depending on individual needs.
Program oversight is provided by medical director Katie Root, MD, FACP, who is board-certified in internal medicine and is an obesity medicine specialist. She heads a multidisciplinary team that includes a dietitian and fitness specialists, who work together to create a plan customized to meet your health and weight-loss needs.
