Robert Dorman, MD, PhD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon at UT Health Athens and UT Health Jacksonville. Dr. Dorman considers patient education a must. “I believe the patient must be fully informed of their treatment options, especially non-surgical options, so they can feel comfortable with their decisions.”
Additionally, building strong patient physician relationships is important to him. “Patients put their trust in me, and I hold that trust in the highest regard,” Dr. Dorman said. “I went into surgery because I enjoy operating, but I pay particular focus to bringing the patient through the pre-operative and post-operative phases of care as well. It is at these times that the most important aspects of the patient physician relationship are formed.
In his free time, Dr. Dorman enjoys running, weight lifting, reading, cooking and long walks on the beach with his beautiful wife.
Dr. Dorman is employed as a clinical faculty physician at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler under the UT Tyler School of Medicine.

The hospital was very clean, the staff were friendly and very professional. Dr. Dorman explained the procedure very well and post instructions as well. The surgery results were better than I expected, well above average.

My family moved from Louisiana to Texas for grandbabies.😊 For years I have been told that I had dense breast tissue and that it was nothing to worry about. I knew in my heart that my chances of getting breast cancer were high. All my family of three generations had breast cancer. My grandmother, mom and sister all had it. Thank the good Lord in heaven because he brought us to a wonderful surgeon by the name of Robert Dorman located in Athens, Texas. My mammogram came due at the end of October 2023. That’s where my journey began with the family history of breast cancer. Yes I had it in both breast and thank god for Dr. Robert Dorman and his t-totally wonderful staff!!!!! They have been nothing short of helpful, caring, loving, listening, crying, and anything other problems besides my cancer. they have gone to great lengths and I Love them!! Dr. Dorman is easy to talk to and explains everything in detail to where you KNOW what’s going on and gives you options on what can be done. I want to encourage anyone out there that maybe too scared to go and have a mammogram because it can save your life 4-sure! It did mine cause we caught it early thanks to the good Lord!!
