David Young, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon at UT Health East Texas Physicians in Tyler. He has been performing various surgeries including gallbladder, hernia, colon resections, thyroidectomies and breast cancer care for more than 20 years.

“I was attracted to general surgery for a variety of reasons. I love the diversity of the disease processes and the different organ systems that are involved. This specialty requires knowledge of a vast number of surgical procedures and techniques. Surgery also offers a unique opportunity to have an immediate, potentially lifesaving impact on a patient’s life. I have found this rewarding beyond measure,” he said.

When not seeing patients, Dr. Young enjoys being outdoors. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, handloading, competitive shooting, leatherworking and rose gardening.

Dr. Young is employed as a clinical faculty physician at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler under the UT Tyler School of Medicine.

In 2014, i had a gastro sleeve surgery done in Mexico that went bad. This is when i meet Doctor Young and he is the reason why i am still here 10 years later. I know find myself back in the same hospital for a different reason. I have an infected kidney and long story short, surgeons are wanting to remove kidney. I trust Dr Young and even though this is not his normal line of expertise, I am requesting a consult with him as he is the one doctor I trust to say this has to be done. If you want the best for yourself or loved one, Dr Young is the best.

Dr. Young is an excellent doctor he is very thorough friendly and patient. He did a 5 1/2 hour surgery on my husband that was very difficult. He took care of me 8 years ago and remembered me from that long ago. I would definitely recommend him as a doctor to anyone. He is truly the best vascular surgeon.

This rating is done on behalf of a Buddhist nun named Sophia Mac who has a language barrier. She also doesn’t have internet access to complete this task herself. According to nun Sophia, Dr. David Young was very thorough and excellent at his profession when treating her. Dr. Young was also very patient in answering all of her questions as she was very nervous about having surgery. She is very grateful for having the attentive care of Dr. David Young.

Dr Young and his staff are wonderful! He treated me for breast cancer. He was thorough, kind and had a great bedside manner. I had to have 2 surgeries and couldn't be more pleased with my experience dealing with Dr Young and his team!
