UT Health East Texas Physicians Tyler - General Surgery
UT Health Tyler
Daniel B. Merritt, Jr., MD, is a board-certified general surgeon at UT Health East Texas Physicians in Tyler who sees patients about 5 years old and older. He offers minimally invasive surgeries for a variety of diseases such as gallbladder, appendix, stomach, small bowel, colon and rectal, hernias, thyroid disease, skin cancers and more.
He became a general surgeon because he enjoys both the technical challenges of surgery as well as getting to know and building relationships with his patients. He believes that the relationship between the surgeon and patients is critical to a patent’s recovery.
“While I can’t undergo the surgery for the patient, my role is to prepare them for every step of the way from illness to full recovery, and guide them through those steps. So much of modern healthcare is unknown and sometimes very difficult for a first-time patient. It can be intimidating and frightening. My goal is to minimize these issues so my patients can get back to their normal lives.”
Dr. Merritt is employed as a clinical faculty physician at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler under the UT Tyler School of Medicine.
