Stephanie Simmons, PsyD, is a clinical psychologist dedicated to treating the whole person by meeting them where they are. She strives to help patients achieve mental, physical and social well-being while living according to their personal values. She works closely with patients' families and medical teams to create meaningful, lasting changes that positively impact their lives.
Dr. Simmons provides psychotherapy and psychological assessments for individuals of all ages. She primarily utilizes Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), tailoring treatment plans to meet each patient’s unique needs. She has a special interest in treating trauma and PTSD, incorporating evidence-based approaches such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Simmons is actively involved in psychological research through the Texas Child Mental Health Consortium. As part of the UT Tyler node of the Childhood Trauma Research Network, she supports children and young adults (ages 8–20) who have experienced trauma. Through this initiative, participants receive comprehensive assessments that inform treatment and have access to free TF-CBT therapy.
Dr. Simmons' passion for psychology began during her undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she became fascinated with psychological disorders and emerging treatments. Her commitment to clinical psychology allows her to work directly with patients, guiding them through their healing and recovery journey. She values her role in an academic medical setting at The University of Texas at Tyler Health Science Center, where she enjoys teaching and supervising trainees alongside her clinical practice.
